Ramshorn Snail (Planorbis rubrum) is good for any freshwater tank.
I use ramshorn snails to control algae and to eat uneaten food.
Snails move slowly so the guppies have a chance to pick food off the bottom.
Also, these snails serve as some special indicator of tank water quality,
if all ramshorn snails have raised up from the tank bottom to the water surface,
it means that there’s something wrong with the tank water and it’s time for water renewal.
Also, it is said that these snails feed on tank plants, but this isn’t true.
The misunderstanding occurs when someone sees the snails on the leaves of rotting
or dead tank plants and takes them for a reason of this,
however, the snails are just eating the plant which has already been dead.
All ramshorn snails have rather weak teeth to make a hole in a plant,
though they’ll eagerly feed on rotting or already dead tank plants.

Melanoides Tuberculata – Malaysian Trumpet Snail

The Malaysian Trumpet snail is very popular in the aquarium trade
and not always because people buy them!
They can attach to live plants (or attach their eggs to the plants)
and later surprise hobbyists.
The truth is a few of these snails in your aquarium can do more good than harm,
cleaning excess algae and uneaten fish food.
However, if care is not taken they can quickly multiply
and become pests causing nightmares for the hobbyist.
Care should be taken not to overfeed the tank
as this is the main cause for them multiplying.
